" DARK SEDUCTION!!! " What happens when a bunch of weirdo's try to shoot a music video?
The depressed citizen of Korso ( Finland's version of a ghetto ) is trying to break away from the chains of depression and to reach social services. Everyone seems to have adhd, at least the Director does for sure, so this might be a bit confusing to normal people. Eat bread, HAVE FUN and PUT SOME ART IN THE MIDDLE, it'll be all good! :D
I heard this song Murdering Lights by TonyGirl earlier and I liked it very much, it actually reminded me of Garbage which is an American-Scottish alternative rock band formed in Madison, Wisconsin, in 1993. so when I got a change I asked some questions from the artist herself and she also gave me a lot more information to share with you. Also the music video for the song Murdering Lights just came out so the timing was suitable for my purposes. I also included the Making of Documentary into this article, the song is in English language and the making of has English subtitles in it. The first single Whatever Happens was not available in YouTube so you need to go to Spotify to hear it, otherwise I would have put it here. Whatever Happens reminds me of Garbage as well, it is nice song and I'm listening to it right now. I'm really looking forward to hear new material from her, luckily it won't probably take forever. After this sentence below is the information that I got directly from her.
TonyGirl is an alternative rock artist from Korso, Finland. The name often confuses people: Is TonyGirl male or a female? Transgender maybe? Well, Tonygirl was originally the nickname that was given by the father of Tony's. To clear that up. The fact that it confuses some, is fine. Some things need not to be clear. This is about music, and if something TonyGirl is it's genrefluid. Meaning, that the genre of the music is not the point either, it can too change. There's also these points: Some music is underestimated and called " music for girls ". TonyGirl is against all underestimating and is a supporter of all human rights. " I love The Spice Girls and the nineties, so may the tonygirlpower be with you! "
The music and the music videos are about subjects like ' depression ', ' anxiety ' , ' heartbreak ', and ' loneliness ' and are meant to support people dealing with those issues. They are a result of my flow that echoes from the experience on the mentioned issues.
The videos may not have TonyGirl in them. At least not the first one, ' Murdering Lights ' that has Anssi as the depressive citizen of Korso. Anssi also has a lot of experience about depression and is a true survivor. Tony likes to direct, film and edit videos with other people in them.
So, another question is, is TonyGirl a band or a solo artist? At the moment Tony is going solo. in the future, it can be a band name. Who knows. "
I'm going to concentrate to record a few songs and make a few videos for now. Live shows are not yet on my list. I still suffer from anxiety and stagefright but I'm working on that issue. I have a love - hate relationship to all that's outside the creative part of making music and video's. The work needs attention, but the private person behind the project doesn't need it. "
There's not an album coming. I am an independent artist and a producer, so the money is tight. Besides, I think it's a bit old fashioned to think about albums. I'm planning to release singles and let people create their own playlists. It's a reasonable thing to focus on a song at a time when you are unsigned. Let's see, what happens after releasing ten songs if I'll decide to put them on an album.
The first single ' Whatever Happens ' was released on Halloween 2015 and that song is a garage rock, alternative rock type of a song with loads of empowering ' tonygirlpower ' in it. If your world came crashing down and you need to let go of things and re-build your world, it's a song for you. It's also about not letting any haters stop you from doing your thing.
The 2nd single, * Murdering Lights ' is a smooth, haunting, alternative rock song with some grunge in it and it's about apathy and depression. The moment, when you feel like you've ruined everything and wish that some day you'd get out of that state of mind. It's about the lights that change and makes some people with mental health problems suicidal. The cold, murdering spring light.
At the studio I didn't want to shout the song. I wanted to be calm, calm and depressed. Smooth. To tell things the way they are in my mind, and give them space. To be haunting, like the death that silently comes and strangles you with it's cold fingers. I also wanted that the choruses give a hint of hope, but I guess they are still dark to most. The feedback tells that those who have experience on depression understand the feeling in the song and that's the best feedback I can get. It has touched people, even made some hidden memories to come out and locked doors of the mind open, so it's a powerful song. I've got some touching private messages from people who have heard the song and wanted to share their feelings. The best result is to be able to be there for people and to have the support back too. We won't let depression to win.
' Murdering Lights ' was released at Spotify, Deezer and iTunes March 14th 2016.The video was released May 29th 2016. " At first I thought I'm soooo late with it. Now I think, it's a good idea to release a song without the video so the song gets two marketing campaigns and chances when the video is released afterwards. And people get to create their own story in their heads before me putting any idea's in their heads with the video.
All together you could call this music puppymetal or whatever you want to call it. Like said, the genre can change. It depends on the song, what suites the story in it the best. TonyGirl likes surprises - if the surprises are done by the artist, at least.
I'm planning to release the 3rd single this summer, but I don't know the exact date yet. The song is about waking up somewhere you don't know where the heck you are, a bit lost and confused after party. It's about having nothing but feeling great. Feeling dead but never more alive. It's about writing your own story and loving the melancholic parts of it too. Being alone, but not lonely. Following your own path and being free, independent. Embracing the moment, the adventure of life!
It's about, hangover, to be honest! And the genre? There's some reggae in it, but that's all I'm going to tell.
But after that song, things can get really, really dark and heavy. You never know. ;) You'll just have to Follow and Like to know.
About the question on past recordings and stuff. I leave the past in the past and trying to focus on this very moment.

This is an old unreleased demo of my song ' Murdering Lights '
I decided to " leak " just for fun. I used to scream this one a bit...higher. :D At least I had some attitude!
I can say this just leaked version is quite nice as well, would make a killer b-side to the single of Murdering Lights.
