Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, is ranked No. 1 on the Forbes list of top earning hip hop artists with $63 million earned in the past 12 months.

Carter, whose wife Beyonce also does pretty well in the earnings department, amassed more than double the amount of the No. 2 artist on the list, Sean "Diddy" Combs, who raked in $30 million.

Carter has a diverse portfolio in addition to his music career, with stakes in the 40/40 nightclub chain and the NBA's New Jersey Nets. Combs, who recently co-starred in the film "Get Him to the Greek," is also a pitchman for Ciroc and Diddybeats ear-buds.
