Justin Bieber has announced that Jon Chu will direct the upcoming 3-D biopic about the Canadian teen's meteoric rise to fame.
Bieber and the 30-year-old U.S. director made the announcement in a YouTube video and on their Twitter accounts.
The Paramount Pictures film has been planned for some time, but suffered a setback earlier this month when documentary filmmaker Davis Guggenheim dropped out of the project to spend more time promoting his education film, Waiting for Superman.
"Most people don't know that his is a true underdog story, and I hope to tell it in a compelling, genuine way, using all source materials available to convey his tale of becoming an icon for this digital age," Chu said in a statement.
