Eminem and Rihanna's new video "Love the Way You Lie," has received a lot of criticism for its depiction of a relationship riddled with domestic violence.
The video depicts a couple, Dominic Monaghan and Megan Fox, in a domestic violence situation. It features Rihanna, who last year went through a domestic violence situation with then-boyfriend Chris Brown, and Eminem, in a duet form with Rihanna singing in front of a burning house and Eminem singing in an isolated field. Later in the video Eminem joins Rihanna in front of the house.
The video illustrates the cycle of domestic violence in a graphic form and opens up with Monghan and Fox lying together in bed sleeping. Fox discovers a phone number of another woman written on Monghan's hand and the violence in the video begins. The violent scenes, in many cases, are followed by moments of passion. Some criticism centers around this, stating that the video depicts domestic violence as a sexy turn-on, which is an easy conclusion to come to when watching the video.
